Thank you for being a valued member of Yorba Linda Water District and for taking time to read this newsletter. I hope that your family joined us for our Open House in May so we could show you how our employees serve your water and wastewater needs. We really appreciate that more than four hundred people took time from busy schedules to learn more about their water and wastewater service.
The first job listed on every employee’s job description is to protect public health and safety. We take this role very seriously and are proud of our part in creating a healthy community by providing safe, clean drinking water, and safe wastewater service. We are leaders in preventing water waste, as we reuse our water supplies repeatedly, providing reliable and environmentally sound water supplies.
Many do not realize the quality of our water is safer than bottled water. YLWD conducts over 23,000 water analyses each year to ensure that your water is clean and safe to drink. We are proud to report that our water system has never violated any water quality standard from either the State or Federal drinking water regulations. Our water system professionals are State licensed and work around the clock to make sure your water exceeds standards and is always there for your morning shower.
If you doubt my statement of the quality of your tap water compared to bottled water, do not just take my word for it, click on this link and listen to Darrin Polhemus, State Water Resources Control Board Department of Drinking Water, at OC Water Summit.
Welcome to August 2019 YLWD Water News. I’m Brooke Jones, the YLWD board president this year, and it has been quite a year so far. We had excellent attendance at the open house on May 18 which welcomed guests from around our service area and beyond. We also recently dedicated the new Fairmont Pump Station which allows us to provide either imported water from northern California and the Colorado River or less expensive groundwater for each ratepayer from the Orange County Aquifer. We worked to convince the legislature that a proposed water tax was a bad idea and more recently, we were able to measure man-made contaminants PFAS and PFOA in the parts per TRILLION range. At YLWD, we take contaminants like PFAS and PFOA very seriously and have been reporting on them for the last 3 years. Currently, the state is in the process of making notification of the presence of these contaminants mandatory and is considering the drastic reduction of the acceptable levels, which may (at least temporarily) curtail our use of groundwater.
The YLWD Board of Directors strives to bring you safe and reliable water at a fair price. Since the election of the current board in 2016, YLWD has moved from being a very efficient provider of water service to become even more cost-effective as indicated by the 2015-2016 rates compared to current water rates, below:
Welcome to the first edition of Yorba Linda Water District’s Water News. This digital newsletter will be sent each month to YLWD customers. My name is Pasquale Talarico and I am the new Director of Public Affairs for the Yorba Linda Water District. Besides public affairs responsibilities, I also assist with legislative efforts in Sacramento that have a direct effect on our District. I joined the YLWD Team after serving two years in the California State Senate as Senator John M.W. Moorlach’s Deputy Chief of Staff. Our goal in the Public Affairs Department is to enhance the District’s communication efforts and ensure we keep you in the know of all events taking place in and around YLWD’s service area. It has been a busy summer with the Open House and Dedication of the Fairmont Booster Pump Station and we’re looking forward to an even more exciting end to 2019.
In the coming months, we will be offering the opportunity for you to participate in tours of our infrastructure; as well as, representing YLWD at many local events. We are happy to offer information about residential and commercial and education in water efficiency. Whether you have a request for bottled water for a school or a non-profit event or just have some questions for us here at the District, please don’t hesitate to call us. It is our great pleasure to serve the YLWD community.
Diane Dalton
As a new day begins, the Yorba Linda Water District trucks roll out of the field yard for a busy day. Diane Dalton can often be found sitting behind the wheel of one of the District’s largest trucks, the Hydro-Vactor, headed towards her collections route. Street names have been burned into her memory. She has seen more faces and has visited many more places than she can remember.
On June 25, 1979, Diane started her first day at Yorba Linda Water District as a meter reader. At that time, the Yorba Linda Water District’s headquarters was located in Yorba Linda while the field headquarters was located in Placentia.
Over the last four decades, Diane has worked as a meter reader and various positions in the maintenance division where she was a lead on the Valve Crew, Hydrant Crew and Leak Crew. Most of her career has been spent in the Collections Crew overseeing the sewer and wastewater service operations. Eventually, Diane would lead the “Collection Crew” which cleans and maintains 260 miles and camera inspects 62 miles of sewer lines every year.
On August 15th, we say good-bye to Diane as an employee of the Yorba Linda Water District. She plans to ride out of the field yard on the back of her motorcycle into a well-deserved retirement. This new adventure will include spending time with her family and volunteering in the San Bernardino Mountains to keep dirt bike enthusiasts safe on the trails.
On behalf of the YLWD community, we say “Thank-You!” to Diane Dalton. Your faithful service has been an example to our entire district and we wish you all the best in your retirement.
