August 2020 – Water News

Message from the Board President

Dear YLWD Community,

In the coming months, you will begin to hear about our new Water Treatment Plant that will remove water contaminants, which is being constructed for the benefit of you, our customers.

The State of California has recently tightened regulations for one of our primary sources of water – the Orange County Groundwater Basin. Due to the new state regulations, the District will be proactively constructing a new treatment plant in order to continue to utilize our precious ground water supply.

This state of the art facility will offer the latest technology in water treatment and will allow us to protect and preserve this vital resource and its infrastructure that has supplied this community for over 100 years.

For our nearly 80,000 residents, this means that they will continue to receive our high quality and more importantly, safe water to drink for them and their families for many years to come.

Committed to you,

Phil Hawkins

Board President District

Message from the General Manager

August was always a carefree month for me growing up in Yorba Linda. Summer vacations, long bike rides, pick-up football, baseball and basketball games, hot days spent swimming and hiking until long after dark. It also was a time to begin preparations for the fall. Back to school shopping for new clothes, a new notebook and especially Pee Chee’s!

It is the same feeling around the YLWD. Though this year, in many ways due to COVID-19, has been very different, in other ways it has been routine.

Our Mission Statement is that the Yorba Linda Water District will provide reliable water and sewer services to protect public health and the environment with financial integrity and superior customer service.

Our team has been here every day working to ensure reliable water is provided to every customer and that our sewer system is operating efficiently and effectively to protect the public health of our community.

While we have reduced our staffing for this coming year, we have been diligently preparing our facilities for the fall and winter months:

  • We have continued the proactive fire hardening of our reservoirs and pump stations for the next fire.
  • We have installed the first of four helicopter hydrants to assist fire fighters in battling future fires.
  • We are installing permanent back-up natural gas generators in order to maintain the ability to operate our facilities as the delivery of electricity continues to decrease in reliability.

Stay tuned as we will be dedicating these facilities for the benefit of the ratepayers to continue our delivery of reliable water and sewer services to our community.

As always, if you ever need anything, please contact me at brbarbre@ylwd.com – I am here to serve you.
