YLWD Water Facilities In Your Neighborhood

Learn about the YLWD water facilities in your neighborhood and why they matter!

The Yorba Linda Water District is valued at over $1 billion and is represented by over 56,000 individual assets. We maintain it all with a mighty team of 80 employees who are there for you 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We are especially proud of our water infrastructure and want to share it with you. We have 14 Reservoirs with a total storage capacity of over 57 million gallons. We have 12 Booster Pump Stations to move the water through over 350 miles of water mains, to approximately 80,000 customers. YLWD's water supply is made up of local groundwater from the aquifers fed by the Santa Ana River, and imported water from northern California and the Colorado River!

The Fairmont Booster Pump Station & Reservoir: This is the site of the Fairmont Booster Pump Station and Reservoir. Our booster pump station was constructed in 2018. Fairmont Reservoir was constructed in 1972.

The Fairmont Booster Pump Station was designed and constructed to blend in with the surrounding neighborhood while fulfilling an essential role in the District. It allows us to pump treated groundwater or treated imported water throughout our entire service area. We can pump up to 10,000 gallons of water per minute, which is enough to fill an Olympic-sized pool in about 1 hour. Our reservoir holds 7.5 million gallons of water, which is equivalent to 11 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

The Hidden Hills Booster Pump Station was originally constructed in 1988 but had major upgrades completed in 2024.

The Hidden Hills Booster Pump Station can pump up to 3,600 gallons of water per minute. That’s enough water to fill a typical swimming pool in 5 minutes. It includes a natural gas backup generator that may be used during a power outage or planned electrical power shutdown, allowing YLWD to continue pumping water even if the power is out in the surrounding area. The natural gas backup generator will also provide increased reliability during fires in the nearby wildfire-prone areas, making YLWD one of the most dependable utilities you pay for.

Elk Mountain Booster Pump Station & Reservoir: Constructed in 1989

This is the Elk Mountain Booster Pump Station and Reservoir. Our pump station can draw/pump stored water from our 6 million-gallon underground reservoir at a rate of 2,650 gallons per minute. This pump station also has a backup power generator, so we can pump water even if the power is out in your area, making your water utility one of the most dependable.

The J. Wayne Miller, Ph.D. Water Treatment Plant is a state-of-the art PFAS Water Treatment Plant dedicated in honor of former YLWD Board President Dr. J. Wayne Miller. The J. Wayne Miller, Ph.D. Water Treatment Plant is the largest Ion Exchange PFAS Water Treatment Plant in the nation and capable of treating up to 25 million gallons of water per day.

Our PFAS Water Treatment Plant was completed in December 2021 and is the largest of its kind in the nation with 6 pre-filter units, 22 Ion Exchange vessels, a 25 MGD booster pumping station, and a 1000 kW natural gas back-up generator. The plant distributes treated water to our community at an operating capacity of 19 million gallons of water per day.

The Treatment Plant treats the District’s local groundwater supply, reduces imported water demands, and minimizes the effects on the electrical grid by pumping water during off-peak periods. It’s innovative and valuable projects like our PFAS Water Treatment Plant that ensure YLWD continues to deliver safe and reliable drinking water to our customers, every day.
