Outdoor Rebates
Drip Irrigation
Water your landscape more efficiently and save water by converting areas irrigated by spray heads to drip irrigation. Rather than spraying wide areas, drip systems utilize point emitters to deliver water to specific locations at or near plant root zones. Water drips slowly from the emitters either onto the soil surface or below ground. As a result, less water is lost to wind and evaporation, and weed growth is minimized. Drip irrigation systems are very water-efficient and are even customizable for different plant varieties in a small area.
The Spray to Drip Rebate Program is currently available from participating water agencies for Orange County commercial customers.
Commercial sites may be able to receive $1 per square foot of converted area, with a maximum of 45,000 square feet per customer. Contact Spray-to-Drip@mwdoc.com for more information. Contractor invoices must include price, SKU/model numbers, manufacturer, and quantities of the rebate-eligible products purchased. The conversion must replace standard spray irrigation with drip irrigation. A minimum of 250 square feet of irrigated area must be converted to drip irrigation.

Rotating Sprinkler Nozzles
Rotating nozzles can help you reduce harmful water runoff that flows off your landscape and eventually enters the ocean. Using multi-trajectory, rotating streams of water, rotating nozzles water more efficiently and uniformly than traditional sprinkler heads. They can reduce your outdoor water use by up to 30%.
Commercial Rebate Level: $2 (or more) per nozzle, with a 30 nozzle minimum.

Smart Sprinkler Timers and Central Computer Irrigation Controller Systems
Take control of your sprinkler system with a ‘smart’ irrigation timer or computer irrigation controller system. Smart Timers use information about your plants, soil, and weather conditions to give your landscape the right amount of water year-round. They allow for more accurate, customized irrigation by automatically adjusting the schedule and amount of water in response to changing weather conditions. A Smart Timer can save you from over-watering your landscape by 13,500 gallons a year while still maintaining optimal plant health. Our rebate-eligible Smart Timers are tested by independent evaluators to ensure superior performance.
Computer Irrigation Controller Systems are designed for larger irrigated areas such as golf courses, parks, schools and large commercial complexes. These systems consist of a master controller (often a computer) which tells the valves at remote locations to open and close. Most of these units can also monitor water flows to detect leaks, can tell if a valve is broken, and can adjust watering times based on the current weather.
Commercial Rebate Level: $50 per station for all properties.

Soil Moisture Sensors
Soil moisture sensor controllers are placed below ground in the root zones of lawns and landscapes to determine if and how long to water. They are available as stand-alone controllers or add-on devices to existing controllers. They have been shown to reduce outdoor water use by up to 70% without sacrificing the quality or health of your landscape.
Irrigation supply houses throughout Orange County (such as Ewing Irrigation, Site One, and Imperial Sprinkler Supply) carry rebate-eligible controllers.
Commercial Rebate Level: $35 per station for all properties.

Indoor Rebates
High Efficiency Toilets
As of November 11, 2015, rebate incentives are no longer available for High Efficiency Toilets rated at 1.28 gallons per flush (gpf). Rebates are now available for Premium High Efficiency Toilets using 4-liters (1.06gpf) or less, and are offered at $40 per toilet.
The largest amount of water used inside – 30% – goes toward flushing the toilet. But how much water your toilet actually needs to flush properly is less than you think!
Replace your old toilets with premium high efficiency toilets that use just 1.06 gallons or less per flush. Premium high efficiency toilets use almost 20% less water than the WaterSense standard and flush the same amount of waste just as, if not more, effectively.
Home improvement stores throughout Orange County carry rebate-eligible toilets.
Commercial Rebate Level: $40 (or more) per toilet.
A Commercial Premium High-Efficiency Toilet comes in two categories, either as a tank toilet or a flushometer toilet and uses only 1.1 gallons or less per flush, almost 20% less water than the current WaterSense standard. Eligible toilets must replace existing toilets using at least 1.6 gallons per flush.

Ultra Low and Zero Water Urinals
New Ultra Low Water Urinals utilize only 1 pint (0.125 gallons) of water to flush. These systems combine the vitreous china fixture with either a manual or sensor-operated flush valve.
Ultra Low Water Urinals provide effective, low-maintenance flushing in public restrooms while reducing water consumption by as much as 88 percent.
Zero water urinals use no water at all, saving an average of 45,000 gallons of water per year. These products use a special trap with lightweight biodegradable oil that lets urine and water pass through but prevents odor from escaping into the restroom.

Connectionless Food Steamers
Restaurants often use food steamers to maintain or warm food. Recently, new water-efficient, connectionless (pressure-less) food steamers, which have no water line or sewer discharge line, have been developed. This type of food steamer is intended for small- to medium-size restaurants.
Based on data from a study done by the Food Service Technology Center, the connectionless steamers save an average of 81,500 gallons per year with an estimated 10-year life. Rebates are available for qualified connectionless food steamers, with more than ten manufacturers offering water-efficient models.

Air-Cooled Ice Machines
Your existing water-cooled ice makers use more water to cool the system than to make the ice itself. This cooling water goes straight down the drain! New, air-cooled ice machines use less energy and water and make ice more quickly and efficiently.
This rebate program provides an incentive for the purchase and installation of an air-cooled ice machine which is replacing an existing water-cooled unit or for new projects requiring
ice-machines.

Cooling Tower Conductivity & PH Controllers
Cooling Tower Conductivity Controllers
If your conductivity controller is more than 5 years old, it may be losing efficiency. Upgrade and save up to 40% on water costs. Annual water savings with a new Cooling Tower Conductivity Controller can be as much as 800,000 gallons.
Automated monitoring and control are the keys to maintaining cooling system efficiency. By accurately transmitting information to the valves that control the amount of blow down (water drained from the cooling tower reservoir) and subsequent makeup water, a conductivity controller can dramatically reduce operating expenses.
pH Conductivity Controllers
Installing a state-of-the-art integrated pH Conductivity Controller will allow you to upgrade your cooling tower water treatment by adding chemicals that control the pH in the system. This may help prevent scaling in your cooling tower, even as you increase its water efficiency.
In order to qualify for rebates, a pH controller must also measure conductivity. Upon installation of a qualified device, you will save significant water in the operation of your cooling towers, improve operational efficiency, and reduce sewage and chemical costs.
Contact your local HVAC contractor for information on how to purchase rebate-eligible controllers.
Commercial Rebate Level:$625 per Cooling Tower Conductivity Controller; $1,750 per pH Conductivity Controller

Dry Vacuum Pump
Vacuum pumps are used in many business, including dental and medical practices; manufacturing such as, petrochemical and pharmaceutical; as well as food and medical applications for drying, distilling, evaporating, degasifying, freezing, suction, and laboratory analysis.
Liquid ring vacuum pumps use large quantities of water as a liquid seal to create the vacuum. Dry vacuum pumps are capable of creating an airtight seal without using water as a sealant by utilizing parts machined within extremely close tolerances.
