Message from the Board President

On December 8, Yorba Linda Water District (YLWD) will turn 110 years old! On behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to wish a Happy Birthday to the District, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Last month, I discussed PFAS, a newly measurable family of contaminants in our groundwater, of which two members are PFOS and PFOA. On November 20, the Orange County Water District (OCWD) Board voted to provide financial aid to OCWD members who will have to install treatment facilities if the state significantly lowers the allowed levels of PFOS and PFOA in our water. All OCWD members will share the costs of this aid, whether or not they have a local PFAS issue.

As a member-agency of OCWD, YLWD will receive funds for installation of a treatment facility and will be reimbursed for 50% of the operating and maintenance costs of the facility.  Although this will increase the cost of groundwater, it will still be less than treated imported water. The extra cost of supplying 100% imported water while our facility is being constructed will be covered by YLWD.  At this time, pilot treatment tests are being conducted by both OCWD and YLWD.

While keeping costs to a minimum is important, focusing on the health of our community is our top priority!

Message from the General Manager

Each year as Christmas and the holiday season approaches, I am thankful for many things. Our most basic need is to have clean water, as life cannot be sustained without it. In my military service, I have traveled to parts of the world that did not have access to clean water. I saw first-hand in third-world nations where the lack of sanitation and clean water caused disease and at times, even death. We often take for granted the superb quality of our public water and wastewater service that others would treasure. We are thankful for the blessings we have.

It truly is a pleasure and honor to serve our community with quality water and wastewater service. The Board of Directors and staff’s top priority is to provide and maintain public health for our community. It is the first task listed in each employee’s job description. While being cost-effective is important to the District, it is not at the expense of public health.

As we prepare for the holiday season, we have many concerns that occupy our minds. Buying gifts, preparing for family visits, cooking holiday meals, house cleaning, and decorating are just a few of them. YLWD works hard to ensure our community receives reliable water and wastewater service, so these are never one of your concerns.

From the staff at Yorba Linda Water District, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season and New Year!
