A Message from the President
Every 5 years the Yorba Linda Water District realigns rates to ensure our community will continue to have safe and reliable water and sewer services. The Board of Directors has proposed a new Rate Schedule for the next 5 years based on a Cost of Service Study.
There are 5 main rates under consideration:
- Commodity Rate* – the price of water based on the amount you use;
- Fixed Monthly (Meter) Charge – the cost to maintain the water system, like basic maintenance and repairs;
- Fixed Monthly Sewer Charge – the cost to maintain the sewer system, like basic maintenance and repairs;
- Capital (Finance) Charge – Pays for large scale capital improvement projects;
PFAS Impact Fee – temporary compliance with new state regulations that required YLWD to temporarily close groundwater wells.
*All charges, except the commodity rate, are based on your residential or commercial water meter size.
Look at your bill and visit ylwd.com/ratecalculator to learn how this change could impact you.
YLWD will host a Virtual Town Hall on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the proposed rate schedule. You can view the Town Hall on YLWD’s Facebook and YouTube pages and ask questions using the chat feature. Then on June 8, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., YLWD will hold a public hearing to consider the new rate schedule. You can view and find links to both meetings, as well as detailed information on the rates and how to protest the proposed rate schedule, at ylwd.com/publichearing. To protest the new rate schedule, you may file a written protest letter to YLWD no later than 6:30 p.m. on June 8, 2021.
A notice with detailed information has been sent to all customers and property owners in the service area. More information, as well as links to the Town Hall and Public Hearing, the rate calculator, and details on how to protest the rate schedule, can be found at ylwd.com/publichearing.
Sincerely,
Phil Hawkins
Board President
