YLWD Dedicates New Well to Enhance Local Water Supply

On December 11, 2023, the Yorba Linda Water District (YLWD/District) Board of Directors hosted a special dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Well 22, a significant water supply source for the 80,000 customers the District serves. YLWD welcomed over 30 attendees, which included members of our community, elected officials, and District staff to recognize this critical piece of infrastructure.

Well 22, situated adjacent to the Santa Ana River, was completed and put into operation in August 2023. It is one of ten potable drinking water wells in the YLWD service area and was designed and engineered to produce up to 2,500 gallons per minute or 4,000 acre-feet per year (AFY), which constitutes approximately 11 percent of YLWD’s water supply requirements. From this well, groundwater from the Santa Ana River is pumped and sent to our flagship Ion Exchange PFAS Water Treatment Plant and chlorination facilities where the water is treated before being distributed to our customers.

“This well is a key component of YLWD’s 1 billion dollars of water infrastructure and helps ensure water reliability for the communities we serve,” commented YLWD General Manager, Mark Toy. “By investing in our water system now, we can help ensure our community has a reliable and sustainable water system for generations to come!”

The water from Well 22 enhances YLWD’s local water supply, reduces imported water demands, and minimizes the effects on the electrical grid by pumping water during off-peak periods. YLWD would like to acknowledge its dedicated staff who worked diligently on this significant project. It’s projects like this that enable YLWD to serve our customers with high-quality, reliable water, 24/7, 365 days a year.
