On January 12, 2021, by a unanimous vote, the Yorba Linda Water District (YWLD or District) Board of Directors appointed Thomas H. Lindsey to fill the vacancy on the Board created when Director Al Nederhood was elected to serve as a Director of the Municipal Water District of Orange County. Lindsey will fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term (through December 2022).
“We are pleased to welcome Tom Lindsey as the newest member of the YLWD Board,” said President Phil Hawkins. “Lindsey joins the District at an exciting time as we undergo a rate study and build a new water treatment plant while navigating a pandemic. The addition of someone with strong community ties and experience as a legislator complements our Board’s skills and experiences and we are confident he will provide a valuable perspective as we continue to provide safe and reliable water and sewer services to our customers.”
“It is my honor to serve the community as a member of the YLWD Board of Directors,” said Director Tom Lindsey. “During my time as Yorba Linda City Council’s Liaison to YLWD, I observed the Board make many sound, yet not always easy, decisions. I know today’s challenges are just as great and will demand the full attention of the Board as we direct the management of over a billion dollars of assets and fulfill our commitments to our ratepayers.”
Director Tom Lindsey has resided in Yorba Linda for over 36 years and has served the community in many capacities, including two terms as Mayor of Yorba Linda. Director Lindsey was the Yorba Linda City Council Liaison to the District when the board implemented a basic service rate adjustment, refinanced bond debt, invested in major capital improvement projects, and managed the unfunded drought mandates from the State of California. The Board chose to appoint this position in an open and transparent public process that took place at meetings held on January 5 and 12, 2021, saving YLWD ratepayers $361,567 or more for the costs of a special election. As part of his commitment to District ratepayers, Director Lindsey will represent YLWD’s interests with other local and regional agencies in addition to his duties at YLWD.
