YLWD Recognizes Directors, First Woman Director
At its monthly meeting, the Yorba Linda Water District (YWLD or District) Board of Directors was pleased to recognize the newly elected and outgoing Directors, including the first woman director in the agency’s over 100-year history.
The newly elected director is Trudi Kew DesRoches, a fourth-generation Orange County resident and water industry veteran. She is the manager of the Robert Diemer Water Treatment Plant, located in the hills above Yorba Linda, for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Director DesRoches has an engineering degree from Cal Poly Pomona and she is a registered Professional Civil Engineer with a California T5 Water Treatment License.
“It is an honor to assume the important role and the responsibility to oversee our community’s vital water system. I will work closely with my colleagues to support our infrastructure and our community,” said Director DesRoches, who was elected by acclamation to a four-year term on November 3, 2020.
Vice President Andrew J. Hall and Director Al Nederhood were recognized at the meeting for their service as they leave their Board positions. Director Hall is retiring from the board after serving as a Directors from 2016 to 2020. Director Nederhood was elected to serve as a Director on the Board of the Municipal Water District of Orange County and assumed office on Friday, December 4, 2020, creating a vacancy on the YLWD Board of Directors.
Both Directors have provided forward-thinking leadership and thoughtful direction in setting policy and focusing on the strategic goals of the District. They were commended for their dedication to the District and to the citizens they faithfully served. According to President Phil Hawkins, the leadership and support of the outgoing Directors have been instrumental in furthering the agency’s overall mission and vision.
Director Wayne Miller was recently swor n in to serve his second four-year term and at this meeting was elected by the board to serve as Vice President for 2021. President Phil Hawkins has two years remaining in his term and he was elected to serve as President one more year.
The Directors define policy and conduct the District’s water management and asset protection activities. They serve staggered four-year terms and live in the community they represent.
