YLWD Welcomes Newly Appointed Board Director

On January 11, 2024, the Yorba Linda Water District (YLWD) administered the oath of office to former Yorba Linda Mayor Gene Hernandez who will serve the balance of the unexpired term of former Director J. Wayne Miller. Director Hernandez will hold the interim Board Director position until the next general election in November 2024.

A resident of Yorba Linda for over 37 years, Director Hernandez is a well-recognized and active member of the community. He has served as Mayor and Councilmember of the City of Yorba Linda since being elected in 2012 and served in law enforcement for over 34 years, most recently as Police Chief in a neighboring city. Director Hernandez has also served in leadership roles on several regional boards representing the community, including the Orange County Fire Authority, Orange County Transportation Authority, and Orange County Senior Citizens Advisory Council, among others.

“I believe strongly that our jobs as elected leaders are to tackle the ultimate challenge of providing high-quality water and sewer services at the lowest cost possible,” commented Director Hernandez. “I am not under any illusions whether this is simple or straightforward, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with the Board and staff to ensure that we are doing everything in our power to protect the ratepayers of the District.”

President Trudi DesRoches welcomed Director Hernandez to the YLWD Board and is looking forward to collaborating with him to continue providing high-quality, safe, and reliable water and sewer services to all YLWD customers.
