Yorba Linda Water District Earns “District of Distinction” Recognition
Yorba Linda, CA — The Yorba Linda Water District (YLWD/District) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded the “District of Distinction” accreditation by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) for its exemplary fiscal management policies and practices in district operations. This is the fifth time YLWD has received this outstanding honor.
To qualify for this significant accreditation, SDLF conducted an independent audit review of YLWD’s operations over the past three years to verify responsible fiscal practices. The audit review committee members are volunteers from the special district community, including controllers, finance directors, and certified general managers.
“This accreditation reflects our District’s dedication to government transparency, sound ethics, and effective operating practices,” said YLWD General Manager Mark Toy. “It is imperative that we as a District continually understand and respect the responsibilities inherent in providing an essential public service such as our high-quality, reliable drinking water.”
Additionally, YLWD’s board of directors and executive staff must demonstrate ongoing educational training in public governance, as well as adherence to ethics and harassment prevention training. The District’s website is required to feature transparency postings, which include:
- Election procedures and deadlines
- Board meeting schedules and agendas
- Current district budget
- Most recent financial audit
- A list of compensation for board members and staff, or a link to the State Controller’s webpage with this information
YLWD also received a Certificate of Transparency Excellence from the SDLF in recognition of the District’s outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance.
