On November 3, 2026, YLWD Director Trudi DesRoches led a special behind-the-scenes tour of two important water treatment facilities: YLWD’s J. Wayne Miller, Ph.D. Water Treatment Plant and the Metropolitan Water District’s Robert B. Diemer Water Treatment Plant. DesRoches calls the experience the “Tale of Two Treatment Plants.”

Fifteen attendees, including YLWD customers, community members, and young adults interested in pursuing careers in the water industry, participated in the tour. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the different treatment processes, explore critical water infrastructure, and better understand the coordination and collaboration involved in delivering safe, reliable drinking water to homes and businesses throughout YLWD’s service area.

The tour provided a unique opportunity for community members and future water professionals to see firsthand how water is treated and delivered before it reaches their taps.
