California recently adopted a regulation for Making Conservation a California Way of Life. The regulation sets new, permanent water use budgets for YLWD’s entire service area—not individual customers or businesses.
Starting June 16, we ASK customers VOLUNTARILY to reduce water use by 20%.
YLWD does not have specific restrictions on your water use. You can decide the best way to conserve.
In response to Governor Newsom’s Executive Order, the State Water Board has adopted an emergency regulation for urban water conservation. The regulation requires YLWD to enter Level 2 of the WSCP and prohibits commercial customers from watering nonfunctioning grass.
Metropolitan’s board declared a Water Shortage Emergency for the State Water Project dependent areas. This does not apply to YLWD because we use groundwater and water imported from the Colorado River.
Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order to increase water conservation measures. He directed the State Water Board to consider the adoption of emergency regulations banning irrigation of “non-functional” turf and the adoption of emergency regulations requiring urban water suppliers be at Level 2 of their Water Shortage Contingency Plans.
YLWD Customers have always been good stewards of water. The Governor is asking all Californians to voluntarily reduce water use by 15%. We encourage you to participate in this endeavor.
