YLWD has been awarded the “District of Distinction” accreditation by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) for its exemplary fiscal management policies and practices in district operations. This is the fifth time YLWD has received this outstanding honor.
YLWD welcomed members of the consul delegate from Taiwan and Paraguay on Monday, June 9th. During the guests gained insight into where our water comes from, how we use ion exchange technology to treat PFAS from our local groundwater, and learned about critical infrastructure such as our Heli-Hydrants to help protect our community in the event of a wildfire.
On May 28, 2025, YLWD received the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence by the Special District Leadership Foundation in recognition of its outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance.

Each year, water agencies across the state of California celebrate May as Water Awareness Month. To celebrate, the District hosted an informative infrastructure tour led by Board Director Trudi DesRoches on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. This event provided customers and members of our community with a behind-the-scenes look at YLWD’s state-of-the-art facilities, highlighting the District’s commitment to providing high-quality, reliable water and sewer services.
On Monday, May 12, firefighters battled the Sapphire Fire at Chino Hills State Park. The fire was first reported at 2:49 PM in the 4700 block of Sapphire Road within Chino Hills State Park. Early assessments estimated the fire at 1–2 acres with a slow rate of spread.
To address widespread concerns and provide assistance to our community, YLWD, OCFA, and the City of Yorba Linda released a downloadable joint letter that emphasizes our proactive measures in mitigating wildfire risk through fire protection strategies and innovative water infrastructure. As essential public service providers for the residents of the City of Yorba Linda, we recognize the crucial role that both fire safety and reliable water supply play in safeguarding life, property, and the environment.
On April 23-24, for the first time, YLWD was a featured presenter in the Orange County Water District’s Children’s Water Education Festival, engaging with 400 students in our booth at Oak Canyon Park. Over 50 booths and hundreds of presenters inspired and educated over 6,000 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders about the importance of water while aligning with state curriculum. Classes who signed up for YLWD’s booth learned about the water cycle through an interactive display and build-your-own key chains with beads that represent each important step in the journey of a water molecule.
On April 8th, YLWD’s J. Wayne Miller, Ph.D. Water Treatment Plant was a featured tour during the American Water Works Association’s Water Conference of the West in Anaheim, California. A diverse group of water experts from AWWA’s California-Nevada sector shuttled to District Headquarters for an informative presentation and guided tour of our flagship ion-exchange PFAS water treatment plant.
On Wednesday, March 19, YLWD had the pleasure of hosting Councilwoman Tara Campbell’s Young Civic Leaders Academy! Eight local middle and high school students were joined by Councilwoman Tara Campbell and Yorba Linda Mayor Janice Lim, who enjoyed a presentation and guided tour from one of YLWD’s Plant Operators who walked students through our PFAS Water Treatment Plant.
On Monday, March 17th, YLWD was thrilled to host a second infrastructure tour for several homeowners from the East Lake Village community. YLWD Board President Tom Lindsey, Vice President Gene Hernandez, and General Manager Mark Toy welcomed our guests and shared valuable insights into the District’s daily operations and extensive background on the services we provide to our community.
